Overview:
Virginia Amateur Sports (VAS) is searching for Athlete Ambassadors to help promote the VA Commonwealth Games. VAS is a non-profit organization with the primary function of organizing the VA Commonwealth Games. The Games attract more than 10,000 athletes from the Commonwealth of Virginia and surrounding states, who compete in over 30 different sports. VAS operates with the mission of promoting the awareness and benefits of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles through training & competition to Virginia residents of all ages and abilities. 
 

Application Opens: March 1, 2024

Application Deadline: April 3, 2024

 
Ambassador Responsibilities:
  • Actively promote and market the VA Commonwealth Games and brand to fellow athletes, coaches, and your community or school as a whole
  • Properly display promotional materials within your community - minimum of 2
  • Responsibly promote VA Commonwealth Games through school social media outlets - minimum of 2 posts prior to Main Games Weekend (July 19-21), or share a post from one of the VA Commonwealth Games social media accounts to your account
  • Communicate with VA Commonwealth Games staff about the progress of ongoing promotions (especially through tagging our accounts) - check in monthly via email, can be more if needed or you have questions
  • Volunteer (or have a family member volunteer on your behalf) for a minimum of 4 hours at VA Commonwealth Games events - can be during Main Games weekend or one of the other weekends (more information to come)

Qualifications of an Ambassador:
  • Athlete who has competed in the VA Commonwealth Games in the last 2 years (2022 or 2023)
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic about the Games
  • Willing to embrace the Virginia Amateur Sports/VA Commonwealth Games mission
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles and ability to use social media to advance the VA Commonwealth Games brand 

Application Process:
  • All interested athletes meeting the qualifications listed may apply.
  • Ambassadors will be selected based on the effort, content, and creativity of their application.
  • Reference Letter from a Coach, Teammate (For Adults), School Administrator or Community Leader
  • Chosen Ambassadors will begin in the beginning of May and finish towards the beginning of July.
