The Game: A team must have at least six (6) players to start or the game will be forfeited. There will be a five (5 minute “grace” period before forfeiture is called.

The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them “OUT”. Players are considered “OUT” if:
Hit with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders (clothing included).
Opposing player catches your LIVE thrown ball before it touches the floor.
Step over the centerline.
Attempt to block opposing player’s ball and drop their defending ball.
Step out of the court boundary lines when not retrieving a ball.

*If you catch an opposing team’s ball, you may choose someone from your team to re-enter the court.

Definition::  LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other items outside the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc.)

BOUNDARIES: During play, all players must remain within the boundaries lines. Player may leave the boundaries through their end line only to retrieve stray ball. They must also return through their end line. Note: Players not in the playing area are not allowed to touch any ball that has rolled out of the boundary lines.

THE OPENING RUSH: Game begins by placing 6 dodgeballs along the centerline. Players then take a position behind their end line. Following signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. The signal officially starts the contest. Once a ball is retrieved, it must be taken behind the blue attack line before it can be legally thrown.

TIMING AND WINNING A GAME: The first team to legally eliminate all opposing player will be declared the winner. A 10-minute limit has been established for each contest, and a match will consist of best 3 out of 5 games. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of 10 minutes, the team with greater number of players will be declared the winner. In the case of an equal number of players remaining after regulation, a 1-minute sudden death overtime period will be played with three (3) player and two (2) dodgeballs. If less than three (3) players were standing at the end of regulations, players must be added. With each overtime period, an extra player will be added to each team until the maximum of six (6) is reached.

5-SECOND VIOLATION: In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called by the court monitor if a team controls all six balls on their side of the court for more that 5 seconds.

RULE ENFORCEMENT: Rules will be enforced primarily by the “honor system”. Players will be expected to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated. A court monitor will supervise all contests. The court monitor responsibility will be to rule on any situation in which teams cannot agree. THE COURT MONITOR DECISION IS FINAL – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Blood Policy:
The following steps must be taken for any player that is bleeding during a game.
Bleeding must be stopped.
Open wounds must be covered.
Clothes that have gotten blood on them must be changed.
Teams must supply their own first aid supplies.
